AOL= Arrogant Overated Losers (Not Recommended)

Pros Aol Broadband starts at the price of 17.99 minimum which is a high price for a broadband contract, I got a contract with AOL for 12 months a year and a half back for their broadband.

My broadband package came in the post and I had to install the broadband my self, I found installing the broadband to be quite easy, an installation CD came along which also had an on screen guide with a voice which guides you through installing the internet.

Cons After installing my Internet I was required to log onto the Internet using an AOL program called AOL 9.0 which gave a lot of trouble as it kept crashing and I could not log on to the internet at all.

My internet kept always crashing when I was with AOL,Their signals are a problem at times as well, In my year of using them my downloads were slow my internet was really a problem for me to use.

Their call centre team were really unkind on the phone and used to always cut the phone of before it got through and even when i was talking to them, one of the worst services provided is by AOL.

I wouldn't recommend AOL, sorry (Not Recommended)

Pros Sorry I can’t think of any positives with regards to AOL as I really don’t like anything about their service. Well, I guess the speed is not bad but isn’t that what we expect from an ISP?

Cons My personal opinion of AOL is not very good and I wouldn’t recommend anyone signing up to them. The server is well below par and not worth the price they charge.

I hate the enforcement of using their browser software to access the internet which includes various advertisements and a bulky interface. This is very annoying and from my knowledge there is no way of using Internet Explorer as you are tied into their browser to access the internet.

The customer supports are very limited in knowledge and struggle to actually resolve any issues you may have. The best you get is some text book answers to problems you come across, which really irritates me as I work as an IT Engineer for my day job and just feel that their support is bad. I’ve fixed many computers for clients and have first hand service of AOL on their computers, I just can’t think of anything good to say about the service.

Lets hope AOL take some of the comments of unhappy customers on board as I know many IT guys like myself that just would never recommend AOL, FULL STOP.

We are all entitled to our own opinion and this is mine.

AO HELL (Not Recommended)

Pros Since the new dial up broadband service I must admit that the time to sign on to AOL did come down, that I'm afraid is the only good thing. Well apart from having a reduced monthly price because I'd been with them for so long

Cons Where do I begin

Well constantly getting chucked off the internet and having to sign on again and again and again, the fact that the longer you were on the internet the slower and slower that it got, until you had to turn off the computer and start again.

The initial sign on screen would go blank for 30 seconds before it allowed you to sign on and despite the appeals to AOL tech staff they could not fix it.

The worse bit was that the online IT help was not very helpful and that you had to keep explaining what the problem was

AOL SUCKS (Recommended)

Pros I was a member where with AOL for so many years at the end all i got was a kick in the face. They overcharged me at times, and their internet connection was a pain.It hardly connected and it used to give so much problems to me nearly every single day. When i rang up i would never get the correct customer support either.

Cons Why do they tell people in India to work for them, who have no idea of what the hell they are doing.

Family ISP (Not Recommended)

Pros AOL provides an all packaged browser that has easy privacy and security control settings for the family controled by user names. The service is reliable and comes with a lot of customer service support and software tools for protection and internet management. It´s easy to use ISP. You have your email client and AIM all built in for convenience. Usually up to speed with the lastets Mbs.

Cons Expensive compared to many other ISPs. The browser is really restricted for configuring and highly dependent on AOL updates. It´s really non-standard so you have to learn the internet the AOL. Customer support is costly by phone.

"I'm just passin you to technical support..." (Not Recommended)

Pros I pay £14.99 for (very slow) broadband. That appears to be more expensive than a few other people writing reviews so I'm going to phone them up and ask for a reduction.

My broadband is pretty stable and has been up non-stop for the last 3 months.

Cons I have spent many long and frustrating hours speaking to people in Ireland and India about my braodband and whether my lights were flashing on the modem. By the end of it I knew their own script better than them and could answer "no,yes,no,3, no, green, amber" before they asked the question. Did it help? Na - they still insisted on asking the questions again instead of reading my account notes.

I found that I was paying £30 for their fastest speed which they admitted they could never deliver and that they knew this when they sold it to me. They gave me a full refund for this but selling it to me in the first place when they knew they couldn't deliver it was just poor.

I've come to the conclusion that I ain't getting fast broadband any time soon which rules out video streaming and any other cooler service on offer. BT even admitted as much and none of this is AOL's issue.

I'm stuck with AOL and I guess they are stuck with me until we get a fibre line which should be some time in the next 50 years. Here's hoping...

good enough (Recommended)

Pros I pay £9.99 a month for broadband. Been with AOL with 6 years now.
1.They reward loyalty. broadband at home seems faster than at work, so i assume its quite a good speed.
2.Free spyware and adware protection
3. firewall security provided.
4. parental control features and the works.

Cons 1. costs a fortune to access phone support for repairs- 0870 number
2. My system crashed once and they charged me £50 for support

they were once cool, not anymore (Not Recommended)

Pros i know the techy opinion of aol, but when i heard they were promising uncapped\shaped broadband and i could use my own router to avoid there shoddy aol browser i thought hell why not.
AOL did as promised, they delivered fast uncapped reliable broadband, i was laughing, people mocked me but i mocked them back for being capped

Cons Then they did something naughty, they sold the UK division to someone (forgot who) and apparently this gave them the right to change their terms and conditions to now include fair usage policy :( also the service seems less reliable now
