CONFUSED.COM: I signed up as a new customer looking for a cheaper car insurance 1 month ahead of renewal.
The quote I got was cheaper indeed but simply not comparable with the renewal quote provided by my currenyt insurance. Why? Because the website doesn't give all the details that you need to have for comparison!
So I called up the cheapest provider only to discover that there was simply no comparison to the online price ! It was a useless 30 mins call indeed.
FSA (or BOE) should make it compulsory for all comparison websites to work with the insurance providers by providing like for like comparison.
Either that or allow the customer to specify the comparable data fields online.
On a positive note, I can perhaps negotiate the quote with my curreny provider by taking the cheap online quote !
Be aware that Confused.com does not guaranteee the quote validity.
For Example initially at the time of signingup to the website, the quote which I was given, had already expired when I logged on next time. Within 12 hours I saw 3 different quotes. Whereas the Confused.com website showed that the quote expiry date was the start date of the insurance.
Very confusing indeed!
After forgetting my password from last year I tried to reset it. During the process I’m informed by a pop-up screen that an email has been sent to me telling me to follow the link etc. etc. which will enable me to reset it. After repeated attempts I have not once received the promised email NOT even in my Spam folder. So, I try and log on as a new customer only to be told after completing other details, that my email address has been recognised(from last year) but the NEW password I have just created does not match; please reset your password. Now I'm going round in circles. I emailed Customer Services whose reply was Bloody useless!
I hate this technology and the Service people who can’t be bothered to read the complaint/fault/problem fully, and by not doing so, give no answer at all which means you once again have to email them with the prospect of not getting a reply for up to five days.
Confused? Bloody right I am!
Pros: There has been a lot of hype about all of these insurance comparison websites, and each of them seem to be tripping over themselves with all of their advertising that we see on the TV and the various media.
But of them all that I have tried, I think that Confused.com is perhaps the best of them all, especially for car insurance quotes because it seems to give you a more accurate quote. Many of the comparison websites will take a few basic details from you, then make some basic assumptions and then get the quotes from the various insurers. If you have a slightly chequered history (eg. points on your licence or you've had an accident etc) then they often won't take these into account and hence your quotes will be wrong or misleading.
With Confused.com, you load in all of the details at the start – name address, additional drivers, but more importantly those little insurance loading facts such as any points on your licence or any accidents that you have had. Then when Confused.com search's all of the providers for a quote, the results returned are accurate for you based on your driving history. It can then link you direct to the particular company's website to take up the quote.
