8 Steps to Writing a Great Review

Everyone is a critic! Whether your experience is good or bad, voicing your views means that others can make smarter decisions when dealing with businesses. It also gives a chance for the business owners to respond.

We have put together a few suggestions that will help you to write informative reviews to help the whole community.

1. Be honest

Write about places you have visited or companies you have purchased from. Be transparent by making your reviews public. It is fine to write anonymous reviews but public reviews add credibility.

If you own a business, invite your customers to review it for you. The BView community are very good about spotting and reporting business owners who review themselves!

Add a photo or an avatar to your member profile to represent you across the site. Other members will recognise you more easily and more readily trust your reviews.

2. Tell a unique story

Often we ask friends or family for advice on good businesses and learn about businesses to avoid. This is your chance to tell the world about the best and worst companies you have dealt with! The more descriptive you can make your experience, the more enjoyable and useful it will be for others.

3. Give balanced ratings and reviews

Businesses are usually rated between 30 and 70 on the QRV scale. Reserve higher ratings only for true stars or lower ratings for businesses that provide abysmal customer service. Few experiences are entirely negative or positive. Be objective and describe both 'sides of the coin.' Business owners read your reviews so be constructive and give them tips to help them to improve.

4. Use a catchy title

The title summarises the review. Your review stands out if you use fun and catchy words! Some good examples are 'musically minded', 'proper vavavoom' and 'divine deliciousness!'

5. Describe your experience

In the main section of the review you can write about the following:

  • The people who served you
  • What you purchased
  • Price and value for money
  • The store environment or the online store delivery
  • Special offers and promotions
  • Whether you would purchase again
  • What you liked and disliked about the experience
  • Tips for getting the best customer service

Include the kind of information that you would want to read from others. Also keep in mind that a good review is normally at least 100 words in length.

6. Bring your reviews to life!

Readers gain more of an insight into your experience when you add pictures to your reviews. Pictures makes your reviews more interesting and you will also earn more Influence Points for your reviews.

Pictures can be of:

  • The place you visited
  • Pictures of you at the place
  • You with your favourite member of staff
  • Items that you bought

Make sure you add captions to your pictures as they appear on the review too.

7. Tag! Tag! Tag!

Tags are keywords which are related to the place that you review. Tags will not only appear on the review but also on your profile page. This helps others to find your review when searching on BView.

8. Share your knowledge

Reviews can be shared with your friends via email, Facebook and other applications. You can even send a copy of your review to the actual business owner. In this way you support local businesses and help them to improve their services.
